Mark 11 verse 24 -
|
Marcus was born in the afternoon, on a Thursday, a much wanted and prayed for baby boy, the beloved son of André and Elise and little brother to three year old Liana. He was a big beautiful baby who sat up early and walked at 11 months.
Marcus started school in January 1989. By the end of his Grade 5 year it was quite clear that he was to be a sportsman. He was good at the game of rugby and also the martial art of Judo.
On January the 24th 1994 came the devastating news. Our beautiful, strong, young son was diagnosed as suffering from a Medulloblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer ... He was 11 years and 8 weeks old.
Marcus celebrated his 14th birthday on Monday November 18, 1996 and was admitted to hospital on the Tuesday. He was in a semi-coma until the Friday, when he had a seizure and the coma deepened.
Marcus died on Monday, the 25th November 1996, at 01H00. He was 14 years and 7 days old.
Marcus fought the battle courageously and bravely. He was gutsy and witty with a great love and compassion for others. Dr Friedman quoted so aptly, "... he was a young man who did not go quietly into the night ..."
We, dad Andre and mom Elise, are proud to have been the parents of this remarkable child and thank the Lord for his life.
"I'll lend you for a little time
a child of mine " He said
"for you to love the while he lives,
and mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years,
or twenty two or three,
But will you, till I call him back,
take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charm to gladden you
and should his stay be brief,
You'll have his lovely memories
as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there
I want this child to learn.
I've looked the wide world over
in my search for teachers true
And from the throng that crowds life's lanes
I have selected you."
"Now, will you give him all your love,
Nor think the labour vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call -
to take him back again?
"I fancied that I heard them say:
Dear Lord, Thy will be done,
for all the joy Thy child shall bring,
the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll love him all we may,
and for the happiness we've known,
forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him
much sooner than we'd planned
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes
And try and understand..."
