When It All Started
Kaitlyn was a healthy baby, and grew normally, she became an easy baby to handle, sleeping through the night from an early age and hardly cried. As she got older this changed, she was hard to occupy, and would grizzle over nothing, she would catch everything going around, every stomach bug and every cold and virus. In April this year she caught a "Virus", we took her to a number of doctors, she would become limp and we would take her to hospital emergency a couple of times, she also had an ultrasound and x-rays on her hips because she walked strange, she just would not get better. I took her to a naturopath and that helped somewhat but she did become worse again, then I insisted on seeing a paedatrician. He tested her for Giardia on a Monday, by Friday those tests were clear and she was becoming sicker, so we asked for him to see her again, he admitted her straight to hospital, Friday night, she settled in well there and had another Ultrasound on the Saturday morning. It was later that morning I was told my baby had cancer, a tumour in her tummy, with the only type told to me being Lymphoma, they transferred us to the oncology ward, and then we spoke with the oncology doctors, they told us they were entertaining two types of cancers, it could be Neuroblastoma or Lymphoma, after coming home and looking up both cancers on the internet we decided if it had to be one we would prefer Lymphoma, as Neuroblastoma does not have a very high cure rate. A week later we were given the final word, after a biopsy on the tumour we were told it was Neuroblastoma, Stage IV. To us this was devastating news as stage IV Neuroblastoma does not have a very good success of cure at all. Everyone is copy in their own ways, just one day at a time.
